Nerja
Nerja, a town on the eastern Costa del Sol and just an hour’s drive from Malaga Airport is, together with the surrounding villages of Frigiliana, Torrox and Competa, part of the region of La Axarquia, in the province of Malaga. The town is famous for its easily accessible beaches (Burriana, La Torrecilla, El Salon, Calahonda, Carabeo, El Chucho and El Playazo), the Cueva de Nerja (Nerja Caves), the natural parks of the Cliffs of Maro and the Sierra Almijara (Almijara mountain range) and the Balcon de Europa (Balcony of Europe).
The Churches of El Salvador and Nuestra Señora de las Maravillas, the Ermita (Hermitage) of Nuestra Señora de las Angustias and the Aqueduct of Aguila are further major attractions of Nerja.
The climate, mild and pleasant throughout the year, and the setting of Nerja are ideal for sporting activities: hiking, climbing, cycling, horseback riding, scuba diving, kitesurfing, water skiing, canoeing, swimming….
Flamenco, theatre, dance, music, a museum, exhibitions and films are just some of the cultural attractions available – and in the old town there is a great selection of shops.
The best of Spanish and international cuisine may be enjoyed in Nerja’s tapas bars and restaurants. A wide variety of holiday accommodation is on offer here: hotels, hostels, apartments, villas, houses and farm cottages. Many visitors choose the residential areas of Capistrano, Punta Lara, Almijara, Parador and Verano Azul. Nerja is an excellent base for exploring Andalucia and for visiting Granada, Malaga, Seville, Cordoba and other cities and towns.
